Why I Wish It Was Still 1998
July 21, 2010
Prime example of what is wrong with music today, taken in Bristol – 18,7,10
My main reason would be the music, not just the fact the Trafford Centre opened, or the fact France actually beat Brazil, the UK charts had some of the most memorable music and some of the best 90s music definately appeared in this year, i just wish i’d been a little older than 7 to appreciate it more as it was happening.
This is my top 10 tracks from that beautiful year.
10. “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It” – Will Smith Let’s just call it a top 9.
9. “Horny” – Mousse T vs Hot ‘N’ Juicy
8. “Angel” – Massive Attack
7. “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” – Jay Z
6. “Deeper Underground” – Jamiroquai
5. “Brimful of Asha” – Cornershop
4. “It’s Like That” – Run DMC vs Jason Nevins
3. “Intergalactic” – Beastie Boys
2. “Rockerfeller Skank” – Fatboy Slim
1. “Ghetto Superstar” – Pras Michel, featuring Mýa and ODB – one of the highest selling tracks in the UK, selling 680,000 copies, and the track i think takes me back the best.
And i don’t think any other year will ever produce that many decent tracks, that would get the same love and attention from the nation. And just think the UK used to be cool, now people cream their pants over JLS, and N-Dubz, and FUCKING JEDWARD. It makes me hang my head in shame.
Well it wasn’t without it’s shit moments, heres three honourable (but very shitty) mentions:
3. “My Heart Will Go On” – Celine Dion
2. “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” – Backstreet Boys
1. “…Baby One More Time” – Britney Spears
And here’s three tracks that turned out not to come out in 1998, to my dismay when i was researching this blog, but weren’t far off, and still deserve there own little place in this blog:
3. “Bitter Sweet Symphony” – The Verve (Out in ’97)
2. “Disco Science” – Mirwais (’99)
1. “Coffee and TV” – Blur (’99)
And thats that.
